I've worked on several projects with our local Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department (RCVFD) as Vice-President, Festival Chair, and other fundraising activities. RCVFD is an all volunteer, donation supported volunteer Fire Department that provides fire and EMS services in an 110 sq mile area west of Fort Collins, CO. RCVFD has operated continuously since 1975. Today the department operates 11 emergency vehicles out of 3 stations. In recent years they have responded to three significant emergencies: Crystal Fire of 2011, High Park Fire of 2012 and September 2013 floods. RCVFD has two primary funding mechanisms:

Stove Prairie Elementary School

As a part of the PTO, I organized fundraising and worked with the Poudre School District to build a new playground for Stove Prairie School. I also helped the school obtain 501(c)3 standing as well as a Colorado Historic Designation. Stove Prairie School opened its doors in 1896 and is the oldest operating one-room school in Colorado. The significantly expanded school, 20 miles west of Fort Collins on historic Stove Prairie Road, features occasional herds of elk in the surrounding meadows. Stove Prairie offers the intimate atmosphere of a traditional, old-time schoolhouse, complete with combined grades which are taught in three separate classrooms: K-1, 2-3, 4-5, balanced by the support of the established Poudre School District. The funds we raise for the school provide students with field trips, library books, classroom instructional needs, and playground equipment.

Volunteer with the US Forest Service in Poudre Canyon for 3 years. As my degree in Natural Resources required an internship I was privileged to work in the Poudre Canyon. There is such variety of eco-systems and recreational activities, it was a pleasure to meet new visitors daily and assist them in the search for the perfect activity for their families. It was great fun showing them the beauty of the area with hikes along trails and the water. I also had the opportunity to create programs to show all that the canyon has to offer. When other expertise was needed I was able to bring in special programs to present at the various campgrounds. All in all, one of my fondest memories.
